No photo? Measure by hand

Measure the straight-line visible forehead-to-chin height and the widths shown in the diagram. For the upper edge, use the visible upper forehead rather than guessing a hidden hairline. Find the widest cheek points in a mirror; measure upper-face width across the lateral forehead and jaw width below the mouth, before the outline narrows into the chin. Keep the ruler level and use one unit throughout. A tape following the surface curve gives a different reading from a straight-line photo projection.

THE REASONS BEHIND THE RESULT

How the six face shapes are compared

These are approximate descriptions of a visible 2D outline. The ranges below are starting rules, not calibrated population norms. Overlapping rules produce a combined result; unmatched outlines stay mixed. Your selected rounded or angular contour helps distinguish round and square.

ShapeHeight / widthUpper face & jawWidest areaVisible contourOften overlaps

The upper endpoint is a visible forehead landmark, not your hairline. These ratios do not measure bone structure or a side-profile jaw angle.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What face shape do I have?

Read the result with its measurements and limitations.

How do I determine my face shape?

Compare visible face height with cheek width, then compare upper-face and jaw widths. The tool shows these proportions and explains which approximate categories match. A face can fit more than one description.

Can ChatGPT tell me my face shape?

A visual model can suggest a description. Here, you can also see the visible ratios behind the suggestion. Neither a label nor one photo proves a permanent anatomical category.

Is there a free face shape app?

This test runs in your browser without installation or an account. The shape estimate, core proportions, manual calculator and downloadable result card are free.

What is the 1/3 face rule?

It describes hairline-to-brow, brow-to-nose and nose-to-chin sections. These are descriptive proportions, not beauty targets. This photo reader cannot locate a true hairline and does not claim to measure the anatomical upper third.

Can I measure my face shape without AI?

Yes. Open the manual calculator above and enter four straight-line measurements in the same unit. Follow the diagram; a flexible tape curved around your face does not measure the same projection as a photo.

What face shape do I have for glasses?

Use your outline as one starting point alongside comfort, bridge fit and personal taste. Softer frames can contrast an angular outline; more defined frames can contrast a rounded one. Shape alone cannot guarantee that a frame fits.

Do face shapes differ for men?

The same outline descriptions can be used for anyone. Hair, facial hair and expression can change the visible contour. A label does not prescribe how you should look.

How accurate is an AI face shape detector?

A level, front-facing photo in even light is the most useful input. Perspective, hairstyle, expression and landmark placement affect the result. These rules are approximate and have no validated accuracy percentage.

Does my photo leave my device?

No. Free analysis runs locally in this browser. The downloaded shape card excludes your portrait. Clear the result or close the page when you finish.

Can one front photo read my jaw angle or nose profile?

No. A true side-profile jaw angle, chin projection and nose profile need a suitable side view or a different method. Front-view ratios do not measure those features.
